The B-52 Stratofortress is an American long-range strategic bomber. The B-52 was put into service in 1955 and has remained in service for over 60 years. The USAF projects that it will serve another 30 years before it is retired. Since its introduction the B-52 has served in several wars. another testament to the B-52 is that many other aircraft have been proposed to put it out of service, such as the B-58 Hustler, B-70 Valkyrie, B-1 Lancer, and B-2 Spirit. There have also been instances were a B-52 has had its tail shot off and still managed to fly home safely.
